Sail op Scheveningen, The Hague

Once again Scheveningen will be the finishing port of a major international maritime event.
Dozens of large Tall ships will come to The Hague for the Liberty Tall Ships Regatta. Many of these ships sail around the world and can only be seen at major international maritime events such as Sail Amsterdam. Many of these ships will be coming to The Hague for the first time.

The Hague is the international capital of peace and justice and has an attractive nautical meeting point with Scheveningen port. The Liberty Tall Ships Regatta Rouen – Scheveningen 2019 will be a spectacular event. This event is the kick-off for a year of festivities around 75 years of liberation. A unique opportunity for The Hague, Scheveningen and the Netherlands to become the world’s focus.

Hospitality

The start of the summer of 2019 will be very special during “Sail op Scheveningen”. The event is a perfect platform to give your best relations or employees a unique experience. We believe in the power of water when it comes to bringing people together. There is always something extra on the water. You have the option to have a deck party on one of the ships in port or go out for a close look at the other ships and for some sailing.

Sailing packages

In cooperation with the Tall Ships fleet and shipping companies from Scheveningen, we organize complete sailing packages (from 20 persons up to 180 guests per ship). There are various ships and catering options. You will have your own tall ship at your disposal. The packages are available for various times a day, starting in the morning. The evening trips are including a spectacular fireworks display.
The highlight of the event is the Parade of Sail on Sunday June 23. You can actually be in the middle of the parade (and be brought back afterwards). Since we work together with the world famous Simonis from Scheveningen, the catering is guaranteed to be delicious and locally inspired.

Tall Ships

Tall Ships are big traditional sailing ships that have sailed the oceans for many decades. There are many different kinds of Tall Ships such as Barques, Brigantines and Frigates. Sail Training International regularly organizes Tall Ships Regattas in which the international Tall Ships compete in a race in European waters. In 2019, the Liberty Tall Ships Regatta departs from Rouen / Normandy and sails to Scheveningen / The Hague. For the first time in its history, Scheveningen expects a large fleet of more than 30 Tall Ships from more than 15 countries in the port. Of course, the local Tall Ships, Barque Europa and the Minerva, will be present. Click here for more information about the participating ships.

Sail Along!

Curious about what it is like to sail on a traditional sailing ship? Register as a trainee at the Tall Ships Liberty Regatta! Whether you are young or older, have experience or not, this is your chance to experience what sea sailing really means!

Once on board you participate in the Sail Training program and you are a full member of the crew. Of course you are not alone. Under the guidance of an experienced crew you set sails together with other trainees, trim these when the right course is set and you learn how to navigate to keep the right course. The goal is to get the best finish for your ship, so: all hands on deck!

Are you between 15 and 28 years old? Then you can participate in the Free your Future project. The purpose of the Liberty Regatta is to give the theme Freedom of Sail at Scheveningen a tangible form. In the Free your Future project you collect ideas together with other trainees about how you see a sustainable, free future for you. You will share the findings with the public after arriving in The Hague.

The Liberty Tall Ships Regatta is in honor of the international liberation of Europe that began 75 years ago. To reinforce this message, embassies and organizations from different countries are participating in the trainee program in which international couples of young people work together and gain international experiences. The trainee program is supported by embassies and companies with international ties. Do your organization or embassy want to support an international couple of trainees? Read more here.
