What does participation in the Embassy Trainee Program involve?
The Tall Ship Liberty Regatta and Sail op Scheveningen (from Saturday June 15th up to and including Sunday June 23rd) are a regatta and an event at Scheveningen where the various embassies of The Hague can be an important part. Scheveningen will act as the finishing port of the Liberty Tall Ships Regatta sailing from France to the Netherlands.
The regatta represents the freedom of Europe 75 years ago, international freedom and the unique opportunity to sail as a trainee from Rouen to Scheveningen. Hopefully we welcome you at Scheveningen so that you are a part of this special event. The focus of the event will be on the trainee program and corporate hospitality on the various Tall Ships.
Every participating embassy or international organization in The Hague nominates a young person living in the Netherlands from the country in question. To each nominated youngster, a Dutch (preferably from The Hague) youngster is linked via a recruitment and selection program. Each couple will sail on a Tall Ship the race leg ‘Rouen – Scheveningen’ and participates in the trainee program during the event in Scheveningen.
The adventure for the participating trainees starts on Saturday, June 15, 2019. All trainees then leave by bus to Rouen where they will board the same evening. More than 50 Tall Ships have been collected at Rouen at that time, because of the Tall Ship event l’Armada Rouen, which will sail in a Parade de Seine sail to le Havre where Monday morning 10 am the start of the Regatta will be. The ships then sail via a fixed route to Scheveningen where the first ships will arrive on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning June 20, the largest ships will enter Scheveningen in a Parade. During the Tall Ship race leg from Rouen to Scheveningen, the participating trainees will share their experiences live via social media. Furthermore, the trainees are trained to give presentations before and during the event for the embassies and visitors of the event.
For the organization of this event, the city of The Hague works together with ‘Het Nautisch Evenementen Bureau’ and the Sail Op Scheveningen foundation.
On behalf of the deputy mayor; Richard de Mos, we sent a letter to the embassies of The Hague with an official invitation, but through this way we want to inform you a bit more about this opportunity.
